Partners and platforms: what the record shows from Ericsson in 2008 to China Mobile International in 2026

A partner-by-partner reading of 21CTL's announcements in connectivity, data-centre power, cloud and open innovation, separating what was announced from what the public record leaves unsaid.

Partnership announcements are often remembered as outcomes. They are better read as what they were: a statement by a named party at a point in time. This article goes partner by partner and, for each, separates what was announced from what the public record does not say. Two of the partners belong to the cloud story, and the section on them ends with a note on what is not established.

Connectivity: Ericsson, 2008

In December 2008 Ericsson announced a contract with 21CTL to supply, build and system-integrate a residential GPON fibre network in Nigeria. Ericsson said deployment to the first 10,000 homes was scheduled to begin in January 2009. We hold no source for how many homes were connected, so we do not state a number.

Connectivity: AWS Direct Connect

AWS's own Direct Connect Partners directory lists 21st Century Technologies as an AWS Direct Connect Partner. AWS states that listed partners have completed technical and business review for helping customers establish private dedicated network connectivity to AWS. The listing is specific to Direct Connect and is not a statement about any other AWS service.

Data-centre infrastructure and power: Schneider Electric and Siemens Energy

In 2018 21CTL and Schneider Electric were reported to be working together on data-centre infrastructure. The scope is not stated in the reporting we hold.

In 2022 21CTL and Siemens Energy agreed terms involving two 10MW SGT-400 gas-turbine power plants associated with the Lekki and Ikeja data-centre sites. This is an agreement and a planned installation. We do not state that the plants are operating.

Cloud and platforms: VMware, Oracle and Centili

In 2017 21CTL joined the VMware Cloud Provider programme in connection with its SMART Digital Platform public-cloud offering. 21CTL achieved the Multi-Tier Cloud Security (MTCS) standard in 2018, as reported at the time. We cite the reporting and do not rank the achievement against anyone else's.

In 2020 21CTL announced a digital-services partnership with Centili, and in 2023 it took part in an Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer initiative. Beyond those descriptions, the sources we hold give no scale, customers or capabilities, so none are stated.

Open innovation and localised cloud: Epicenter and China Mobile International

In 2025 Epicenter, in Stockholm, publicly described signing a co-creation and open-innovation agreement with 21CTL. In June 2026 21CTL and China Mobile International announced a strategic partnership focused on localised cloud and AI-ready digital infrastructure in Nigeria; a separate article covers that announcement.
